Advantages of air heaters compared to a conventional water heating system

Air heaters and water heating systems are two different heating methods frequently used in greenhouses. Each system has its own advantages; however, air heaters offer several advantages over water heating systems. The main advantages of air heaters are listed below:

1. Faster Heating Air heaters have the ability to heat the space much faster than water heating systems. Because they rely on heating air and its direct circulation within the greenhouse, the temperature rises immediately, providing more direct and effective heating during periods of intense cold.

2. Lower Installation Cost Air heater systems are more economical to install compared to water heating systems. Water heating systems require an extensive network of pipes, radiators (pipes, fan coils), and water pumps (circulators), which can increase the installation cost and the required installation time.

3. Simpler Maintenance The maintenance of air heaters is simpler and less expensive compared to water heating systems. Air heaters do not have pipes that can leak or suffer wear over time, and they do not require monitoring of the water circulation system.

4. Ease of Installation The installation of an air heater is simple and does not require complex tasks, such as installing pipes or pumps. This makes it ideal for greenhouses that need a quick heating installation or that do not have the infrastructure for a water heating system.

5. Uniform Heating With the use of air heaters and the appropriate placement of EOS 450 air circulators, heat can be distributed uniformly throughout the greenhouse. In contrast, in water heating systems, the heat can be more intense near the pipes or radiators and decrease as one moves away from them.

6. Frost Prevention Air heaters are particularly effective in preventing frost, as the direct heating of the air can keep the temperature inside the greenhouse at safe levels for crops, even in extreme weather conditions. A water system may need more time to react to sudden temperature changes. They are also more effective at melting snow on the greenhouse roof compared to floor water pipes.

7. Portability Due to their size and because they do not depend on any other part of the installation (e.g., water pipes), air heaters can be relocated in case heating needs change. Additionally, there is often a backup air heater that can be moved to an area where there might be a need for immediate heating.
